About Us Scouts prepare young people for Skills For Life. Scouts are do-ers and give-it-a-go-ers. Yes, we go camping, hiking, swimming, abseiling, cycling, and canoeing. But we also get to hang out with our friends weekly – having fun, playing games, working in a team, and taking on new challenges. Every week, we give almost half a million 4-25-year-olds the skills they need for school, college, university, job interviews, important speeches, tricky challenges, and big dreams: the skills they need for life. Everyone’s welcome here—all genders, races, and backgrounds. Regardless of your young person’s physical ability – there’s a Scout adventure out there waiting for them. And we’ll help them find it. 5th Holme Valley (Meltham) Scout Group is part of The Scout Association UK. Our Mission Statement Scouting actively engages and supports young people in their personal development, empowering them to contribute to society positively. Scouting isn’t just for young people! You can get involved in many ways to support scouting in Meltham, from helping out occasionally on a parent rota, helping to run the group or volunteering as a leader to our lead volunteers. The volunteering opportunities are as varied as you! Whether you’re helping to plan a fundraising event, running an activity in the Scout HQ, organising a night away, or buttering 120 slices of bread for a group of hungry eleven-year-olds, no two Scout meetings are the same. The difference you make, though, is always great. Our award-winning training scheme for volunteers means that adults get as much from Scouts as young people. Our approach focuses on what you want to get from volunteering with Scouts while respecting how much time you can offer. Over 90% of Scout volunteers say their skills and experiences have been useful in their work or personal lives. Click here to sign up. Ages 6 to 8 Ages 8 to 10½ Ages 10½ to 14
